Hawaii, the Caribbean islands, Mexico and the Mediterranean coast are all ideal places to hold such an occasion—they all boast of gorgeous beaches, salty air and warm weather. However, just because you don’t have the budget to fly your friends and loved ones to these destinations, doesn’t mean you can’t have your very own beach themed wedding—heck, you can even have one in Toronto in the middle of January.

A beach wedding can come in many forms; you don’t really have to limit yourself to a beach location to hold the wedding you’re aiming for. You can easily compensate with accessories, theme variations and decor.

Playing around with Themes

Aside from the obvious beach and coastline location, what comes to your mind when you think about a beach wedding? For example, if you’ve always wanted a wedding reception by the beach under the stars, you can always book an outdoor wedding and pick a clear and starry night to hold your reception.

If lighthouses remind you of the beach, you can play around with a lighthouse theme for your wedding. If you can rent an old lighthouse in your vicinity, then by all means, go for it. If that’s not possible, you can always pick a secluded area (if possible near the ocean) and play around with the motif.

You can even consider mermaid or fairy themes for your wedding, both of which have proven popular with many brides. A nautical-inspired theme complete with yachting decor, wooden boardwalks and sand can also be done, without having to poke a hole through your wallet.

Watching the royal wedding one can’t help but ask questions as to how much the whole event will cost both the bride and groom. Both Kate Middleton and Prince William’s respective families are apparently sharing the bill, while the British Government taking care of security, which definitely won’t come cheap considering the number of people gathering to witness the spectacle.

When it comes right down to it, should getting married really be an expensive affair? To be honest, it all depends on how you want your wedding to be like, who you want to be part of it (are you looking to invite your immediate family, or the whole neighbourhood?) and where you want it to take place.

Being on a budget however, shouldn’t hinder your chances of having your dream wedding. While it’s true you’ll have to cut corners in order to make things work, you can still have the wedding you’ve always wanted. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Wedding packages are where the action is at. There are some great hotels and venues that offer wedding packages to brides and grooms to be. For a wedding not to look tacky—which is often the case with such packages—you’ll have to compensate by careful planning and tons of customization.

Ditch wedding planners and have a team of friends and family help you with your wedding. Not only will this save money—you can negotiate payment terms if you’re worried about being called cheap—it’s also easier for people who know you to understand what you have in mind.

Do your homework. The Internet is teeming with wedding advice—this site alone should be enough for your needs. Get your ideas and adjust them according to your present needs. From the flowers, theme, entertainment and dress, there are plenty of ways for you to save without compromising quality.

Remember that it’s foolish to place too much emphasis on the beginning of your marriage. Having good memories about your wedding is great, but what good is a fancy wedding if the marital commitments and vows aren’t kept over the long run?

If you’re looking to celebrate a wedding sometime around March or April, take a breather and go through our ideas for themes and colours that suit this time of the year. You’re cutting it awfully close, but you have more than enough time to whip up a wedding that’s guaranteed to be memorable.

When you think of Spring weddings, we’re guessing that the first that comes into your mind are all different sorts of blooming flowers, bursts of warm and vibrant colours, and of course, a re-emergence of life all over. Many wedding planners like the Spring because it’s the season where many flowers bloom naturally, including daisies, lilies, daffodils and tulips. March and April brides typically go for yellow and lavender pastels, as well as eye-pleasing combinations like red and darker shades of pink, as well as pink and green. You can even go for a totally pink look (albeit in different shades) to create a stunning effect.

For themes, you can go for butterflies and cherry blossoms. If you or your partner has Irish ancestry, you can also draw inspiration from St. Paddy’s Day.

Remember that these are just suggestions for themes and colours, so if you plan to do hold a wedding in some exotic destination outside North America, you’ll have to do a lot more work, with more factors to take into account. Although we think the suggestions above are perfect for the Spring months, there’s no reason why they can’t be used during any time of the year.

With Christmas fast approaching, why not hold your wedding in December for a yuletide-themed celebration? Needless to say, Christmas is one of the most popular times for weddings—it’s not unheard of for couples to hold their weddings on the Big Day itself!

Indeed, Christmas always manages to add a dose of magic and romance to any wedding. Whether you’re celebrating the holiday and you’re wedding as one, or just want to hold your special event on the month of December, here are a few tips to get you started on your wedding theme.

With your invites, go for an all-white theme. Aside from being very dainty, white is associated with the season—snowflakes, snow covered trees, bells, berries, sleighs and stars can be incorporated into your invites.

When selecting your white wedding dress, you can try lining it with white fur (faux) to give off that cold and wintery feel. Instead of a veil, why not use a nice cape?

Your groom and his groomsmen can be dressed in all-white attire to match the overall Christmas theme of your wedding. For you and your bridesmaids, you can consult with your make-up artist to get that icy, yet dainty look. Numerous magazines will have pointers on how to do this, so don’t worry if you have to DIY.

Bouquets can have white tulips, with leaves sprinkled with a bit of silver dust. Roses are also great, as they give off the warmth and joy of the season.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways for you to play around with the Christmas theme. Use your imagination and don’t be afraid to experiment!

The five rings represent the five major regions of the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Every national flag in the world includes at least one of the five colors, which are (from left to right) blue, yellow, black, green, and red.

With the 2010 Winter Olympics coming to a close in a few days, I thought I’d speak of the colors used in the Olympic Rings and how they can be a great choice for your wedding.

Color Moods:

Blue and green: Calming, cool. Choosing one of these colors adds a relaxing atmosphere to your event. It tends to release a calming effect.

Yellow, red : excitement, romance. Warm colors rev us up and get us going. Using any of these colors let’s your guests know a party is starting! These colors tend to release emotions.

Black: unifying. It makes a statement on it’s own, but can be use to tone another color down. When used on it’s own this color tends to be very sophisticated.
